New York City can feel overwhelming for first-time visitors. There are so many famous places to see, different subway lines to understand, and neighborhoods that all have their own personality. This tourist map was created to make NYC easier to navigate, especially for Filipino tourists, balikbayans, families, and kababayans visiting New York for the first time.
The map uses Times Square as the center and starting point because it is one of the easiest landmarks to recognize, very accessible by subway, and close to many major attractions in Midtown Manhattan.
Start Here: Times Square
Begin your tour at Times Square, the bright and busy center of Manhattan. This is a good meeting point because almost everyone knows it, and many subway lines stop nearby.
From Times Square, you can walk to several attractions within minutes:
Broadway / Theater DistrictPerfect for tourists who want to see the famous theaters, musical billboards, and NYC entertainment scene.
Rockefeller CenterA short walk from Times Square. This is a must-see during Christmas, but it is beautiful year-round.
Top of the Rock Observation DeckLocated at Rockefeller Center, this is one of the best places to see the NYC skyline, including Central Park and the Empire State Building.
St. Patrick’s CathedralA beautiful historic Catholic cathedral near Fifth Avenue. Filipino Catholic visitors often appreciate stopping here for prayer, photos, or quiet time.
Fifth AvenueOne of the most famous shopping streets in the world. Great for window shopping, luxury stores, and sightseeing.
Museum of Modern Art — MoMAA popular museum for art lovers, located close to the Midtown attractions.
Midtown Walking Route
After Times Square, you can follow the Midtown route:
Times Square → Bryant Park → New York Public Library → Grand Central Terminal → Empire State Building
This route is good because many of these places are close to each other. You can walk, take pictures, rest at Bryant Park, visit the famous New York Public Library building, then continue to Grand Central Terminal and the Empire State Building.
For tourists who do not want to walk too much, use the subway or rideshare between stops. But for most visitors, Midtown is very walkable.
Central Park and Museum Route
From Times Square, go north toward Central Park. This is one of the best areas for families and first-time tourists.
The map includes:
Central ParkA relaxing break from the busy city. Good for walking, photos, carriage views, picnic spots, and sightseeing.
Metropolitan Museum of ArtLocated on the east side of Central Park. This is one of the world’s most famous museums.
American Museum of Natural HistoryLocated on the west side of Central Park. Great for families, kids, and anyone interested in dinosaurs, science, and history.
This route is best done earlier in the day because museums take time. Wear comfortable shoes because Central Park is large.
Downtown Manhattan Route
If you want to see historic and cultural parts of NYC, follow the downtown route on the map.
Start from Times Square and head downtown by subway toward:
Washington Square ParkA famous park in Greenwich Village with the Washington Square Arch.
SoHoKnown for shopping, stylish streets, restaurants, and beautiful old buildings.
Little ItalyA small but famous neighborhood with Italian restaurants and tourist-friendly streets.
ChinatownGreat for food, souvenirs, culture, and photos.
This route is very walkable once you are downtown. SoHo, Little Italy, and Chinatown are close to each other.
Lower Manhattan and Financial District Route
For history, skyline views, and patriotic landmarks, follow the Lower Manhattan route.
The map includes:
One World ObservatoryA major skyline viewing spot at One World Trade Center.
9/11 Memorial & MuseumA meaningful and emotional stop. Visitors should plan enough time and be respectful while visiting.
Wall Street & New York Stock ExchangeA famous financial district landmark.
Charging BullA popular photo stop near Wall Street.
Brooklyn BridgeOne of the best free sightseeing experiences in NYC. You can walk across the bridge and enjoy skyline views.
This route is best done during the day or around sunset if you want great photos.
Brooklyn Route
After visiting Brooklyn Bridge, continue toward Brooklyn.
DUMBO, BrooklynThis is one of the best photo spots in New York. You can see the Manhattan Bridge, cobblestone streets, waterfront views, and the Manhattan skyline.
Coney IslandLocated farther away by subway. Best for summer visitors, families, beach walks, amusement rides, and boardwalk food.
Because Coney Island is not close to Midtown, plan extra travel time if you want to include it in your day.
Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Route
For many tourists, the Statue of Liberty is one of the most important NYC experiences.
From Lower Manhattan, take the ferry route shown on the map to visit:
Statue of LibertyA symbol of freedom and one of the most famous landmarks in America.
Ellis IslandA historic immigration site where many immigrants entered the United States.
This route requires ferry planning, so check schedules before going. It is better to visit early in the day to avoid long lines.
Yankee Stadium Route
The map also includes Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
This is a great stop for baseball fans or visitors who want to experience American sports culture. From Manhattan, you can take the subway. Travel time can vary, so check your route before leaving.
Special Stop for Filipinos: Little Manila in Woodside, Queens
One of the most important parts of this map is Little Manila in Woodside, Queens.
For Filipino visitors, this is a familiar and comforting stop. You can find Filipino restaurants, bakeries, groceries, remittance centers, community businesses, and many kababayans in the area.
Filipino tourists visiting New York are welcome to visit our community center, Filipinos of NY, located right in the heart of Little Manila at 69-11D Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, NY 11377. While you are there, you can also apply for jobs through Direct Hire Agency at directhireagency.com, where many employers are specifically looking for reliable Filipino workers for domestic household positions (nanny, housekeeper, houseman, butler, caregiver, newborn care specialist, nurse, HHA/CNA, couple caretaker, personal assistant) and other support roles. Applying is free. Just bring a valid government-issued ID and one facial photo when you visit.
Little Manila is not beside Times Square, so the best way to go is by #7 subway to 69th St station or rideshare. It is a good stop if you want Filipino food after sightseeing, need groceries, or want to experience the Filipino community in New York.

Travel Tips for Filipino Tourists
Use OMNY or a MetroCard for subways and buses. OMNY allows you to tap your phone, credit card, or contactless payment card.
Wear comfortable shoes. NYC involves a lot of walking, even when using the subway.
Check the MTA app or Google Maps before traveling because subway routes can change, especially on weekends.
Do not try to see everything in one day. NYC looks small on a map, but travel time, walking, crowds, and photos can take a lot of time.
Keep your belongings close, especially in Times Square, subway stations, and crowded tourist areas.
Visit Little Manila if you want Filipino food, groceries, or a familiar community stop during your NYC trip.
