Defining the Professionals

 

Registered Nurse (RN) - Professional who holds either a Bachelor's of Science or an Associate of Science from an accredited university or college and continues to maintain an active license in satisfactory standards.  Thereafter, obtains a state license by the Department of Health to many nursing services; for example but not limited to nursing assessments, administration of medication, IV therapy and other direct skilled care services. The nurse can have a direct relationship with your doctor to better prepare or render care.

 

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Professional who holds a license by the Department of Health after passing a stated examination.  This professional performs skilled care services both independent and supervised by a Registered Nurse.

 

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Professional who holds a certification from successfully passing the state requirements, demonstrating knowledge and proficiency in providing ADL's (Activities of Daily Living).  Usually this professional can receive directives from a nurse to perform tasks within the scope of their training.

 

Home Health Aide (HHA) - Professional who has successfully completes 40 hours or 75 hours of direct care training and obtains a certificate

 

Homemaker -  Professional who manages the client's household day to day chores.  

 

Companion - Professional who accompanies the client to appointments, outings, shopping, visiting friends and family.
