First Course NYC is an apprenticeship program that teaches the culinary skills necessary for a career as a line cook. This 14-week program includes eight weeks of classroom kitchen training delivered by experienced chefs/instructors, followed by six weeks of on-the-job training in respected New York City restaurants.
Program Features
Eight weeks of free, hands-on culinary training led by an experienced NYC chef (weekly MetroCard and stipend of $325)
Earn the NYC Food Protection Certificate
Six weeks of paid ($16/hour), on-the-job training with a respected NYC restaurant
Connection to full-time employment as a restaurant line cook
Minimum Requirements
Committed to pursuing a career as a line cook
Aged 18 or older
New York City resident
Authorized to work in the United States
Registered for Selective Service (if applicable)
Make no more than $50,000 annually
Restaurants participating in this program require that all apprentices receive the COVID-19 vaccination
